Trelease is one of the first and most important ambassadors for reading aloud  and student choice in reading material, and I adore his work! I got to hear him once at an NCTE event, and it was an amazing experience–finally, someone saying what I knew to be true! Reading aloud is important, pedagogically sound, and POWERFUL! His Read Aloud Handbook was just updated, and I think everysingle teacher should read it. Math, Science, Social Studies, PE–no matter what you teach, this book is that important! I’m an old Math teacher, after all! I wish I’d read it years before I did, because I knew this was important, but I just didn’t understand how it could apply to me as a Math teacher. It does.
