- BFTP: The danger of irrelevance – Home – Doug Johnson’s Blue Skunk BlogPrensky’s idea of digital natives/immigrants has long bothered me, because I see that it is not correct. Many of my young students come to school with fairly sophisticated tech skills–that is, my primarily white & affluent students! Many of our less affluent, (and coincidentally, our not-Caucasian students) come to school with a far thinner tech experiential base to pull from. Our kids aren’t natives–their tech skills are not magically endowed upon them at birth. They need experiences and opportunity first–and for many kids, that is at school! AND they need guidance from knowledgeable adults! Again, Blue Skunk is spot on. tags: dougjohnson 4librarians 4tchrs
- All children “can” learn or “will” learn? – Home – Doug Johnson’s Blue Skunk Blog
- Wow! Doug Johnson is on a roll these days! I so LOVE the first portion of this post. I too am suspect of such admonitions as “every student will learn” and “more rigor!” (Again, I revert to the definition of rigor in my mind, and think surely we can do better!) But I digress…

Kindergarten Kids At Play: Tech Tip Tuesday: Make Your Worksheets With Powerpoint Instead Of Word
Seems like a simple suggestion, and one that is hardly worthy of discussing. I’ve done this for years! I know that many people haven’t made this switch though, and it’s a simple switch that will make your life easier if you care about the placement of graphcis & the overall graphic design of your final piece.
BONUS: Ppt is so much more friendly than Publisher to use, that I wonder why people ever use Publisher in the first place! Publisher is difficult to open if you’re not a MS Office Suite sort of person (zamzar will do it in a pinch though), and if you hone your skills, there’s not much that you can do with it that isn’t also available in Ppt.
